Getting Swept Away? How To Stay Grounded This Season

Christmas is almost here and excitement is in the air. With that excitement also comes apprehension for some, perhaps for most. In my last two newsletters, I’ve talked about rollercoasters, even providing you with a virtual ride on the most exciting coaster I’ve ever experienced. This Christmas, let's plan to enjoy the ups and downs. If there’s a mess up in any way, let’s be determined to find some good in it right away.

At D1 Productions, we believe in empowering you to break that grip—whether it’s a literal rip current in the ocean or the overwhelming waves of stress and anxiety in life. The holidays are meant to be a time of connection, joy, and renewal, but for many, it becomes a season of isolation, worry, and loss. Sadly, the pressures of this time can push some into darker currents, as death by suicide rates increase during the holidays.

That’s why it’s so important to anchor yourself in the gift of the present.

🌊 S.O.A.R. Through the Holidays:

  1. Stop the rush. Notice when you’re being pulled in too many directions.

  2. Observe your emotions without judgment. Are you feeling joy, or are you caught in the current of “shoulds” and “what if’s”? Notice the thoughts that are going through your mind.

  3. Adjust those thoughts by choosing one jmeaningful thing to focus on each day and see yourself accomplishing that task or goal. Think of things you're grateful for to turn a frown upside down.

  4. Respond with presence. Slow down, breathe, and engage fully with the people, projects, and moments around you. I’m preaching to myself here too!

🌟 Three Proven Ways to Stay Present:

  1. Pause and Breathe: When stress builds, take a moment to inhale deeply and exhale slowly.

  2. Limit Distractions: Put down your phone during meals or conversations and tune into the people you’re with.

  3. Set Boundaries: Say no to activities that don’t bring you peace or joy, and yes to moments of rest and connection. Recently I heard someone say JOMO, which stands for “Joy Of Missing Out” and it made me smile. If it’s an event you just can’t miss then choose to step into the magic of the moment. In one of my rap songs, I say, “look for the miracles with determination.”

Remember, the greatest gift isn’t under the tree. It’s wrapped in the bow of your presence and offered freely to those around you. Just that thought alone is the greatest gift you can give to yourself and to ones who love you the most.

Stay strong, stay present, and ride the wave of this beautiful season with your hearts wide open.
